Cover Show Lambs Has A New Look!

Cover Show Lambs flock of 60 brood ewes has been built to be a line bred factory of genetic predictability. Over the past years, their emphasis has always been to produce a stout, heavy boned, muscular sheep with some shape and look.

Approximately 80% of their ewes go back to Hancock 2033 (Yahoo). These Yahoo daughters have been mated to some Hancock genetics (Ultra & Storm Cat) and most recently bred to Winfrey 22 (S.B.). Winfrey 22 lambs have provided that extra stoutness that the industry needs and is seeking today.

Please look through their new site and read more about their program.

Buzzard Hollow Ranch :: New Website!

Buzzard Hollow Ranch has a new website!

Please read the excerpt below taken from their new site...

About Buzzard Hollow Ranch

Our History:

Since 1982, Buzzard Hollow Ranch has been striving to produce Fleckvieh cattle that are moderate framed with fertility and milk, easing calving, set on sound feed and legs. The cattle had to have body capacity, natural muscling, short hair coats, longevity, carcass quality, ease of fleshing and eye appeal, all to meet the needs of our environmental needs and that of our customer base.

In addition to the Fleckviehs, Simbrahs and SimAngus have been added to the program, along with Red Angus to meet the needs of a broader customer base.

Our Genetic Base:
All Fleckvieh genetics originated in Germany and Austria. Selection pressure has generated various types of Fleckvieh genetics based upon markets and environment.

Fleckvieh were the breed of choice, but after importing cattle from Canada, Germany and Austria, where the environment was much different than ours, it was decided to look elsewhere for a gene pool to meet the needs at BHR. The cattle must have all those attributes that Fleckvieh Cattle have, plus they must meet our environmental condition.

South Africa and Namibia have the oldest Fleckvieh genetics, outside of Germany and Austria, with their first imports in the late 1800’s with an environment similar to ours, so this is where we went. Fred Schuetze, our Director of Livestock Operations found the most consistent producing cattle that he had ever seen with the visual appraisal required for registration, insuring the cattle were physically sound. The cattle were moderate in size, with short hair and sound udders, combined with strong feet and legs. Fertility was strictly selected for along with functional udders and teats.

The first imported embryos were born in Canada in 1995 and the rest is history. The blending of these genetics into our Simbrah and SimAngus program has produced phenomenal results.

Simbrah cattle were Fred Schuetze’s first love, being from South Texas, having worked with Brahman influenced cattle his entire life, incorporated them into our breeding plan. Our Simbrah Herd, now basically Fleckvieh influenced, is small in numbers due to the fact that we cannot keep the cattle consistent enough for our program. The production of Purebred multi-generational cattle is not where we are headed. It seems that our largest market is ¾ Simmental ¼ Brahman, both males and females, so we have brought in some Brahman genetics to produce ½ & ½ as well as ¾ Brahman ¼ Simmental to meet our customers’ needs.

Our Red Angus program was born out of necessity. We had been using Red Angus bulls on our larger framed spotted cows to produce a saleable product and it was extremely difficult to find bulls at a reasonable price that had the genetics and data to meet our criteria. So in 2005, the first Red Angus females were purchased. Our herd remains small and embryo transfer allows us to create genetics in enough quantity to service our needs plus sell some around the country.

Our Breeding Philosophy:
Select both Power and Maternal genetics and blend them into a select product that has calving ease and growth, fertility, milk, muscle, depth of rib, ease of fleshing, with excellent carcass data all set on sound feet and legs.

Our Future:
Our future depends on our ability to produce cattle that meet the needs of the Seedstock Producers worldwide and meet the needs of the Commercial Cattle Industry.

Buzzard Hollow Ranch today!

Six Star Speckle Parks :: NEW LOOK!
Re-Design
Wednesday 24th of February 2010 01:45 PM

CHECK OUT THE NEW LOOK FOR SIX STAR SPECKLE PARKS!!!

Six Star Speckle ParksSPECKLE PARK CATTLE CO PTY LTD was founded in 2007.
The Directors are Mark Baker, Mike Todd, Greg and Kerrie Ebbeck and George and Marilyn Kusely.

For over 25 years, numerous directors of the company have traveled to North America, particularly Canada to source predominately Poll Hereford genetics and import them to Australia.

Whilst on these trips and walking many times through the huge cattle barns and exhibition halls of the Canadian Western Agribition (one of the world premier and largest livestock shows) they regularly saw a black and white “speckled” breed of cattle on display, which interested them immensely. The cattle’s intriguing colour pattern, quiet disposition, softness and amazing thickness made the breed a must to find and inspect every year they attended Agribition.

In those early years the Speckle Park breed was what the Canadian’s called an evolving breed and on display only, at the show, but the dedicated Canadian breeders new they were onto something very special and continued to work hard strengthening all facets of the breed ensuring their future progress.

Over the ensuing years the directors saw more and more of the breed and became even more excited with what these impressive speckled cattle had to offer the beef industry. The breed did progress and rapidly, in both numbers and quality in the late 1990’s.

2004 saw the Australian’s back to Canadian Western Agribition and witnessed a great showing of the Speckle Park cattle. After much discussion over a couple of years and a ‘100 beers’ between the six Australian breeders it was decided that the Speckle Park breed had so much to offer Australian beef cattlemen that they would try and import embryos and semen in the breed to Australia. And start an Association in Australia and New Zealand and begin breeding this beef breed with all of its unlimited potential.

This started the long and laborious haul of setting up and registering an Association, sourcing the very best cows to embryo transfer, select the top bulls for semen collection, organize the embryo transferring and semen collection programs, put importation protocols in place of which all had to go through the relevant Government, Quarantine and Animal Health departments in both countries.

In 2006 the Speckle Park breeders of Canada were rewarded for their foresight, dedication and years of hard work in stabilizing, refining and perfecting the breed. In July 2006, the breed was recognized as a PURE BREED by the Canadian Minister of Agriculture, the first and only cattle breed to come from Saskatchewan Canada.

Speckle Park Cattle Co had been waiting for this Pure Bred status to finally put into action all that had been discussed, planed and hoped for over the previous ten years. At this point in time negotiations with various Speckle Park breeders in Canada commenced to purchase their best genetics.

The females were found, embryos collected, bulls selected, semen drawn, all imported and in August 2007 the first embryos were implanted in Australian recipients.

The Speckle Park Breed is now a reality in Australia and Speckle Park Cattle Co. invites you to be part of this great breed of beef cattle.

Join them and be part of history.
