Boondocks Hunting and Chris Mathis Hay & Cattle Co.
New Business Website
Monday 27th of April 2009 04:08 PM

...a “Diversified” cattle, crops and recreational farm management program!

Putting together the pieces to make the farming operation work in economically challenging times is a goal at Chris Mathis Hay and Cattle where “Diversification” is key to their success in yielding a quality product and utilizing what their land has to offer. Owner-operators Chris and Paula Mathis invite you to Chris Mathis Hay and Cattle, home to 200 registered Angus, Brangus and Charolais cows plus a herd of high quality black hided commercial cows. A thriving hay business with 700 acres of coastal Bermuda, Bermuda mix, fescue and rye grass is a busy piece to the “Diversified” program. The newest development at Chris Mathis Hay and Cattle is the on farm Boondocks Hunting Preserve that utilizes some of the woodland and otherwise less productive farm land. Pheasant, quail and chuckars are home raised, guaranteed to fly and to provide recreational enjoyment on guided or self-guided hunts in season.

Yes, “Diversification” allows them to stay in the farming business and with 20 years experience behind them, they look forward to your visit to Chris Mathis Hay and Cattle and to share the future with you!

Back Home With The Happy Housewife
uncategorized
Tuesday 14th of April 2009 06:00 PM

Hello again!  I am finally home safe and sound, and I have a whole pile of wash to get caught up on!  Dear me, what am I to do!  Before I get going on that task, I thought I’d take a minute and write another blog to let you know what’s been going on with me.

If you recall, in my first blog I wrote about my travels and my new website www.wheresedje.com.  Well, now that I am back home, I have been looking over my date book and planning quite a busy and exciting Spring and Summer!  Things have just been crazy here at home with Jimmy getting ready to graduate from high school in May.  I have been so very busy pulling everything together for the reception we are having for him in the church basement.  I mean people really go to great lengths these days with invitations, posters, banners and more for these types of parties.  I tell you folks, it is so much more than cake, punch and mints!  So I decided I had better get on the stick and put a call in to DesignInk to get going on these things for me while I was on the road.  I must say they have been just great to work with!  The designers came up with some wonderful invitations that Jimmy just loved; and the poster they created has a collage of photos of Jimmy with his friends from the Glee Club and the Varsity Baseball Team.  I was so impressed I went ahead and ordered a wide format banner too and I just think it looks swell!

That reminds me, as soon as graduation is over, wedding season will be upon us, and I have several to attend in the next few months.  In fact, my niece Judy is getting married in June and DesignInk is designing and printing all of her invitations, programs, and place cards.  As you can imagine I am very excited and honored to be the hostess at the reception, which reminds me, I need to find my recipe for perfect peach punch!  And I need to make myself new dress before then – oh my - so much to do!  Another wedding I am looking forward to this summer is Hayley Mae Carraway’s wedding in August!  If you don’t know, the blushing bride is a designer on the print team at EDJE, and I simply can’t wait to attend her pink and green polka dot themed wedding. I do get quite sentimental at these sorts of events though; I’ll have to make sure I have my handkerchief close by!

Let’s see, what else?  This summer has so many more fantastic events coming up, my calendar is filling up fast.  Check back again soon for an update on my adventures at the Warren County Fair, the EDJE Company Picnic, RAGBRAI, the Iowa State Fair and the National Balloon Classic!

Well now I suppose I should be getting to the wash.  That, and I need to take Bobby in town to the store to buy fabric for a new dress shirt.  He has asked Susie to the Spring Fling and I have to get a new shirt made for him before the dance!  Oh the happy housewife’s job is never done!

HEAVENS YES, I KISSED A GOAT!!
EDJE Fun
Wednesday 1st of April 2009 02:24 PM

HEAVENS YES, I KISSED A GOAT!!

Today at EDJE we were so greatly interrupted by South East Warren FFA Chief Joe Ripperger and his tribe, which consisted of 4 other humans and 1 goat!! Yes a goat!!! Not a pig to Hayley Mae’s dismay she has a strange obsession with little baby pigs and wants one for a wedding gift!!!

Being the sports that we are here at EDJE, we like to give back to the community rather it be an uplifting saying to the local Dairy Queen Lady, a design to the county fair or money to help the SEW FFA for their fundraiser!

Yes, every April 1st the FFA member of SEW bring a goat around to local businesses in Warren County as part of a fundraiser!! The rules are you have to pay $7.00 to send him on, $5 to get rid of him or if you are a card user that don’t have cash on you, you must sit with this creature for 20 minutes!

So at approximately 1:30 this beautiful April 1st Joe who is Kelly’s brother and his tribe walk in the door, Kelly pays him 7 to send it on to their other brother Chad! Then Ed the BOSS sends it on to some guy at the city office, IDK his name he isn’t a big deal, or I would know it of course!!!

But before they left with the goat the EDJE lady decided we needed a picture with the cute little goat!!  Then they dared me to kiss it so DUH I did!!

P.S. they smell bad I wouldn’t recommend keeping one for a house pet! My hands smelled horrible after the experience but no worries folks! I was the lucky chap that got to go to the National Goat Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma last year and that was an experience and smelled much worse! I myself raise and show cattle, so I have been too many livestock shows! But have never seen anything like the goat show! It is an experience everyone should have.

Toodles for now!!
